Announcement of Faculty Position
East and Southeast Asian Religion

SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY, Department of Religious Studies, invites 
applications for a tenure-track position at assistant professor rank in 
religious traditions of East and Southeast Asia, to begin Fall semester 2006.

The position is focused on the religious traditions of China and Japan in 
their Asian and Southeast Asian contexts and also in the context of 
contemporary America. Candidates will specialize in Taoism, Confucianism or 
Zen; however, we expect undergraduate teaching competency in all of these 
traditions as well as in Neo-Confucianism and Shinto. The position requires 
appropriate language skills, fieldwork, and/or life experience in East or 
Southeast Asia. Preferred candidates will have pedagogical skills in World 
Religions. Desirable related interests include any of the following: 
economics, political science, sociology and ethnography, sex and gender 
studies, or religion and psychology. Commitment to teaching excellence and 
scholarship is essential. Ph.D. required. We will interview at the American 
Academy of Religion in Philadelphia. Applicant screening will begin 
November 1, 2005.
