Michael -- Jay Garfield's *The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way*
is a good place to start. It's a translation (from a Tibetan
translation) of Naagaarjuna's foundational work, the
Muulamadhyamakakaarikaa. The book isn't easy, but Garfield's prose
explanation of the verses is very clear, and he does a superb job of
teasing out some of the philosophical complexities of the text.
