Hegel has a few pages on Buddhism in his 'The Philosophy of History'.  If I 
remember correctly, he thinks Buddhism is a step beyond 'Hindooism', but as 
the Indians had no notion of history, this shows that they never attained 
self-consciousness.  But he does mention the Dalia Lama!
