Curt - you might also want to check out an ongoing introductory
Sanskrit class that is being taught at Diamond Mountain by Brian 
K. Smith, Emeritus of Religious Studies at the University of
California, Riverside.  The online resources for the class are
freely downloadable from the URLs listed just below, including 
both audio transcripts (MP3) and handouts (PDF) from when the 
class was in progress.

If you are starting from scratch, working through this content
