Please cite some references to cognitive psychologists who recognize
rational thought as higher than mythic thinking and who regard meditative
states as higher than rational thought.
--------------
I believe Piaget had a theory based on study of children with stages of
types of thinking. I think he identified some types of thinking in children
with magical or even mythic thinking, and later stages he identified as more
correct, useful and advanced with rational thinking.
I believe Abraham Mazlow created a pyramid of stages of personality, with
self-actualized at the top of a pyramid, strongly implying a hiearchy. His
peak experiences have many similarities to descriptions of meditative
experiences.
Someone with more training in psychology would know more about this.
